Our Team
Alexa Nicole Celerian and Minh Dao are two second year osteopathic medical students at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences. Both students are interested in a future in primary care and hope to one day promote health of mind, body, and spirit to all patients, especially those in rural and underserved communities.
Our Goal
This website is a collaboration between Student Doctors Celerian and Dao for an Evidence-Based Patient Education Assignment for Community DOctoring. The goal of this website is to inform our chosen patient population (female college-graduates between the ages of 22-30 years old employed in a full-time job in Washington State) about a specific health concern: cancer. The reason we chose this topic is because a random survey given to our patient population revealed that cancer was a concern of 100% of the survey participants. We elected to present this information via a website since our survey indicated that this was the highest preferred modality amongst our participants for learning about health concerns.
Our Objectives
Our website aims to display facts about common concerns of cancer amongst our patient population, the screening modalities, and recommended time tables for when screening should be done. An interactive quiz will be provided for users to test their knowledge about the presented material in order to gauge where they are in terms of knowledge after reviewing our material. The objectives we hope our patient population will achieve are:
- Identify the important cancer risks for the given population.
- Discover the various screening modalities for prevention.
- Understand the risk factors involved with the different cancer forms.
- Self-assess personal feelings and attitudes towards the importance of healthcare maintenance.
